Thoughts on Winter

There’s a stillness to Winter I notice for the very first time. The way the blues and pinks rest on the horizon like padded layers on children, or like snow on branches when it should have been rain. Suddenly, I no longer wish for Summer or for the greens and yellows that were meant to be eternal and lead me somewhere new. I learn to prefer the cold and I cling to what I know. Because when Fall fades away and Spring never comes, I know Winter is all I have. And I know that’s all I ever need.
