The way the blues and pinks rest on the horizon like padded layers on children, or like snow on branches when it should have been rain. Suddenly, I no longer wish for Summer or for the greens and yellows that were meant to be eternal and lead me somewhere new. I learn to prefer the cold and I cling to what I know. Because when Fall fades away and Spring never comes, I know it’s all I have. And I know that’s all I ever need.
